Backstage Capital looks to raise $36 million for black female founders

  • Recent deals… Backstage invested in Thurst, “a dating app for queer people of all genders” and in travel app Localeur, as well as Novoron, Solstice and Pilotly.
  • Bigger tickets… With this fund, Backstage intends to do 15-20 deals of an average $1 million in size, a big jump from its original intention to write checks of between $25,000 and $100,000.

Tyson Ventures backs Israeli lab-grown meat startup Future Meat

  • Where’s the beef… Tyson’s venture capital arm has also invested in Memphis Meats, another lab-grown meat company.
  • Additional investment from… Israeli food conglomerate Neto Group, Chinese food tech accelerator Agrinnovation, and venture capital funds BitsXBites, Yissum and HB Ventures contributed to the round.

Mandaê raises $7.1 million from IFC and corporate venture funds

  • Mandaê’s model… the company offers a pick up and packaging service specifically for small e-commerce businesses.
  • Other investors… UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund, Mercado Libre Fund, Tekton Ventures, FJ Labs, Performa Investimentos, Qualcomm Ventures Monashees, and Icon Holding Company also backed Mandaê’s Series B round.
