Tata Trusts has backed Pollinate Energy to tackle energy poverty.

The funding from the philanthropic arm of Tata Group will allow Pollinate to expand its operations throughout slums in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s largest and poorest states.

Pollinate, an Australian social enterprise, supports the distribution of off-grid solar products, cookstoves and water filters in India by identifying and providing supplies to local entrepreneurs as partners.

More than 30 percent of Indians don’t have access to electricity.

Nearly 70 percent still cook with biomass and five percent don’t have access to clean water.
